Nestled within the storied walls of the former Sheboygan Press newspaper building, The Press Apartments is a harmonious blend of heritage and contemporary living. Originally erected in 1924 with an addition built in 1955, this iconic two-story structure has been thoughtfully repurposed into 28 distinctive apartments, ranging from studios to two-bedroom lofted units—each a testament to the building’s rich history.
Rigorously following the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties ensured that the character-defining elements remained intact: from the mint green floor-to-ceiling wall tile in the original Press room, to the concrete block walls that used to be the Loading dock, to the Editor’s lounge remaining virtually as it once was; the very essence of the Sheboygan Press era has been preserved. Light fixtures were selected for their modern LED efficiency while having an authentic historic aesthetic. The overall color palette was intentionally crafted to be modern yet reference the character of its original eras, and a custom mural preserves headlines from past newspaper editions as a visual bridge between yesterday and today.
